Visiting the Dwarves Empire in Kunming has been an eye-opening experience. What struck me the most was how this unique community has given its workers something rare - dignity, self respect, and a strong sense of belonging.

Many of the performers and staff are “little people” who, in this supportive environment, have found opportunities they may not have elsewhere. They aren’t just employees - they are part of a vibrant community that celebrates their talents, creativity , and uniqueness.

It’s unfortunate how Western Media has sometimes portrayed this place as exploitative, but the reality is much different. After spending a full day here, it’s clear that Dwarves Empire is more than just a tourist attraction - it’s a sanctuary where people can feel empowered and valued. The joy and pride you see on the faces of the workers as they perform or interact with visitors are genuine and inspiring.

I’m beyond grateful to have visited and seen firsthand how this community fosters empowerment. It’s a remainder that we shouldn’t judge a place or its people without understanding the full story.

Often, it is the most unexpected places that can teach us the strongest lessons.

The Golden Statue of Bodhisattva sits on top of the mountain.
